Skulduggery Pleasant - a book review
Author:
Derek Landy
Series or single book?
A series with 6 books so far. Nine are planned.
Genre:
Fantasy, Action, Humor
What’s it about
It’s about a 12-year-old meeting a talking, fire-throwing, badass skeleton.
Why I like about it
Well, first of all, there’s magic, then there are a lot of great, ass-kicking people who have the best humor ever. Everytime I read it, I discover a new scene (maybe because I tend to forget the plot) and it never fails to make me laugh.
I especially love Tanith Low because she’s one of very few female characters who are strong, clever and BLOND. Seriously, blond women don’t have to be stupid! She always says: “Come and have a go, if you think you’re hard enough”
What I dislike about it
The cover says it’s for kids 9y+ but it’s way to violent for kids! Sometimes, the killing is a bit to … I don’t know… easy? They kill people without feeling any kind of guilt, I mean these pagelong describtions about guilt as they appear in other books bore me but just letting people die without the slightest sight of a bad feeling? Not cool.
And the storyline can be a quite confusing.
How it makes me feel
Happy and cheerfull. It makes me want to jump around.
Quote
So that plan worked out well.’
Skulduggery, your entire plan consisted of, and I quote, “Let’s get up close and then see what happens.”’
All the same,’ he said, ‘I think the whole thing worked out rather beautifully.
It’s a book for you when…
you like Percy Jackson’s humor and stories about girls discovering that there’s magic in the world. You shouldn’t have a problem with violence.
Sorry about any grammar or spelling errors.
